When Lightning Strikes

My flight into Orlando was quite exciting. Imagine the Barnstormer roller coaster in the Magic Kingdom. Our Captain announced we were circling the airport waiting for a thunderstorm to pass. He assured us we had 15 minutes of fuel and should we need an alternate airport to land, Tampa was a “short” 15 minutes away.

While we continued circling another 14 minutes, I learned Orlando is the lightning capital of the Northern Hemisphere. At this point I decided~~Okay, two options, either we’ll run out of fuel or we’ll be struck by a lightning bolt ϟ

After putt…putt… putting… into Tampa, refueling, and landing safely back in Orlando an hour later, I was thirsty. Around the corner from the hotel was a little market that offered two options, beer and water. Cold beer $3.19, warm water $3.99.

Guess I was mighty thirsty. When beer is cheaper than water, beer is always the better option.

Mmm…Big “Flats”? Beer

Warm Water

The locals drink lots of this beer and even though this lager is swill, I’d choose it every time. In HOT Florida, an ICE COLD Big Flats Beer always hits the spot at Happy Hour!

About Woody

The travel bug is contagious. I caught it in 1985 while traveling with Hali on a three month backpacking trip through Western Europe. Having a passion for geography, local history & culture, and with a journal in my back pocket, I hope to share our experiences through this blog – whether traveling the well worn rail, or off the beaten trail.

We enjoy hearing from you! Leave us a comment here:
