No, we’re not in Australia, we’re in Melbourne, Florida. BUT with Carli in China, 2020 looks like a year we’ll finally be headed over, then down under. I just bought China and Australia guidebooks, so we’re pretty much on our way. Visas pending.
Last week we took a mid-week trip to the beach. Fun fact~Did you know that no matter where you live in Florida, you are not more than 60 miles from a beach? Anyway, our girl is in China, and in a twisted way, we are in another empty nest. It’s cooled off with temps in the 80’s, the peak of hurricane season, kids are back in school, and prices are lower this time of year. Let’s Go!!
Melbourne is on the Atlantic side, about half way to Miami, the southern end of the Space Coast. On a clear day, gawkers line this beach to watch rockets blast off at Cape Canaveral.
Time To Fuel Up
We found this throwback 50’s era motel, The Sea Scape Motel, right on the beach. No, it’s not The Ritz, but it’s cozy, has a full kitchen, BBQ grill, deck patio, and IT’S RIGHT ON THE BEACH! At $75 this is a steal, a real deal. Why leave the beach and this space to “go out”. With the full kitchen, we are are staying in. We’ve brought snacks and supplies to last a potential 2-day, category 1 hurricane.
The beach, just steps from our front door, awaits our toes digging in. Very few people out today. Not much going on. So we’ll stroll the beach, watching and combing. The dozen or so surfers are living their pipe dreams or measuring up the surf for the upcoming SurfFest in Cocoa Beach this weekend. Surf’s up dudes and dudettes!!
That wraps up our brief mid-week getaway. Just a respite from the empty nest, guide books, and the Rover dogs that keep us busy the rest of our time. Perfect weather, no crowds, and the sand between our toes.
