Last night, Carli treated us to the Osborne Family Spectacle of the Dancing Lights. This has been a popular holiday festival in Disney’s Hollywood Studios for twenty years. This will be its last year. And judging by the size of the crowd funneling into the Disney streets, people came from all over to catch a glimpse of this Spectacle before it was gone forever.
It all started in Arkansas when Mr. Osborne promised his six-year-old daughter he would decorate their modest house in lights during the holiday season. That first year he strung 1000 lights. Each year after it grew bigger and bigger. So big in fact, that since their house was located on one of the busiest streets in Little Rock, it eventually caused severe traffic issues, and lots of complaints. So they decided to share their magic with Disney and the whole world.
Holiday music synchronized to the three million flashing lights awed the crowd. A good idea for Disney to ban selfie sticks from their parks. A big distraction from the attraction. Yet still, have your camera ready for the action.
It’s a good thing that Disney is the master of moving people in an orderly fashion, otherwise there would be severe traffic issues. The only complaint I heard was that this will be the final performance of the Spectacle of the Dancing Lights.
