Sunday Funnies… (NOT)

Not a Laughing Matter

Living with Alzheimer’s is very serious. On the other hand, I have found that it can also give rise to humorous situations.

Occasionally there is a laugh-out-loud moment… generally from misunderstood conversations, instructions getting confused, or Woody playing his silly games. I wish I had been paying closer attention when they happened, because I might have had a little more material. Any way, today I attempt to sketch a couple of these “moments” which were part of our week:

Of course I am much more human after a good cup of Joe, so this next “funny” could be me, just as well as someone struggling with dementia…

Between my dad and Scot’s mom who both had some serious Dementia and Alzheimer’s I have a ton of material. Joking about it made the situation so much less sad for sure. The best one was during a mostly awkwardly silent dinner out with my dad I said the wine was probably made with cantaloupes and he said “Can’t elope without a ladder” xoxoxo!

I l-o-v-e that! Just the other night I “caught” Maribel curled up on the sofa, eating ice cream from the carton. When she saw my shock at the empty carton, her response was, “I didn’t mean to.”
