More Purging – Is this Possible?

A full week at the Mermaid Hammock and I see Carli has done some magical things to make the little place her own. She’s updated her bedding, hung photos and created her own flowery wall hanging. I like her special touches. She is a big fan of decorating for the seasons or holidays. From the front porch and throughout the home, are colors of fall.fall

It certainly put me in the mood, and I bought some Halloween candy. However, I got grief for thinking Smarties were a legitimate candy to pass out on Halloween. As Carli put it, “I took Halloween very seriously as a kid. If I went to someone’s house and they only passed out Smarties, they’d run the risk of being TP’d.” So, OK, one more trip for chocolate I suppose. At least the Smarties will stick around until Halloween.

Anybody want to take bets when she starts playing Christmas music? I just hope we make it to November before I hear Pentatonix blasting. Wait, November’s only a couple days away!

In Carli’s efforts to make her home, hers, some of which was mine, has headed to storage trunks. So, it has forced me to do some reorganizing too – and that meant more purging. What do I possibly have to unload? Well, Hillary-style pantsuits which I couldn’t part with a year and a half ago, a few fleece blankets – they made great moving blankets – a couple Pendleton accent pillows I thought would go anywhere (but, really, Pendleton-anything in Florida doesn’t make a lot of sense), a heavy camp chair we ditched in the garage after our last visit, a broken lamp that I thought I could repair, and a couple of these sorts of things:

"In appreciation for 25 years of service"

“In appreciation for 25 years of service – a clock, made in China. Man, maybe I should stick around longer?”

I sure hope someone can figure out what to do with them.

I mentioned “magic” earlier, and here’s another little fascination: Carlos. He seems rejuvenated by reuniting with his kid. carli-losGet this: he located his long deserted ball, carried it to Carli and gently placed it on a shelf. She instinctively tossed it to him, and he actually caught it! I can’t even remember the last time his coordination allowed him to catch anything in the air like that – not even bacon. And, except for one accident, he hasn’t had a surprise poop sneak up on him. Hallelujah! Now, if he could stop standing like he belonged to The Crooked Man.

A couple more updates to pass along: we found a fun, and reportedly famous, Portland-esque sandwich shop not too far away, Yellow Dog Eats .

We’ll be back with Carlos & Thor (the van) for a photoshoot. During our lunch, I’m again amused at cats who choose humans that are the least fond of them. Why is this so? catOn another front, Carli is the proud owner of a 2013 Honda Civic with only 1,923 miles on it. What a find, it sure beats her 2001, two door Civic, with close to 175,000 miles on it.

And, last, but not least, I am a new Cutting Counter Associate for Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Store. Yup, I’m back in the workforce in a completely scaled back fashion: seasonal help and part time. I should be starting in about a week – can’t wait to get my hands on all that crafty-stuff.p1040018

Ha! All your arts and craps experience will pay off! Tip: As a fabric customer I hate being asked “Oh what are you making?” It is usually some strange project no one would understand, so I have to think up something like, “some theater costumes”, ….. and then they ask what’s the play ……then I make up something else. Anyway, have fun and get those discounts!
    Great photos!

Arts and Craps, too true! And, thanks for the tip – I bet it’s difficult not to inquire on customer projects, I’ll have to watch it.
